A Look into the History of Hürner

Hürner Schweisstechnik looks back on almost 100 years of experience in the plastic and plastic joining technologies. In 1928, Ernst Hürner took a chance and started up his own business, a precision mechanics shop. His operation was also among the pioneers venturing into the then new macromolecular orgnanic material called plastics.

After World War II, the business was re-established as Ernst Hürner & Co. GmbH, and the manufacturing shop in Frankfurt-on-the-Main made it to the forefront of innovation in plastic engineering. In 1959, the plastic engineering shop became a division of the corporation Deutsche Steinzeug Cremer & Breuer AG. At the time, the Cremer Group had already been for half century a leading producer of chemotechnical stoneware for aggressive substances, and joining forces with a plastic producer just made sense because it had become obvious that plastics would replace stoneware as a material. Deutsche Steinzeug- und Kunststoffwarenfabrik (German Stoneware and Plasticware Factory) was formed in Friedrichsfeld near Mannheim. Until the 90s of the 20th century, the company was called Hürner GmbH and was a subsidiary of Deutsche Steinzeug; it grew to a turnover of about DM 200 million and around 850 employees.

FWS225In 1970, the production plant of Atzenhain, in the municipality of Mücke, was founded; it was to become the headquarters of today's Hürner Schweisstechnik GmbH. For a start, appliances, containers, raceways, and other parts made of thermoplastics and duroplastics were produced. This plant, too, grew rapidly, and a department for metering, control, and regulation technologies was formed in 1976 within Hürner GmbH. The Atzenhain plant produced master control units at first, but it was this plant that manufactured one of the first heater coil electrofusion units in Germany: the MKS160z, to be followed soon by the FWS225.

Continuous improvement and development in line with the market led the way from the first electrofusion welding units, which were suitable only for a few kinds of applications, through to the current HST300 Line, which has established itself on the top spots around the world thanks to its high technical standard combined with improved handling.

Changing challenges at the end of the 1990s caused also Hürner to concentrate on core competencies. The department of metering, control, and regulation technologies (MSR) was separated from the corporation in the course of far-reaching restructuring measures, and since 2000, has been a driving force of innovation on its own in plastic joining technologies. While Hürner Kunststofftechnik GmbH, which had been founded in the meantime, went through another merger and was called Hürner-Funken GmbH, MSR became HST: its current management turned what had used to be a department into the company Hürner Schweisstechnik GmbH, which employed 8 staff at the time and serviced its customers as reliably as ever.

logo_hrnr Since 2002, Hürner Schweisstechnik has been a fully independent corporation that has been developing the existing areas of competence, has opened new areas, and has established its good reputation in plastic joining applications far beyond the borders of Germany and Europe.

Besides electrofusion welding technologies — presently with lightweight boxes of only about 10kg and capture of geographic coordinates —, butt welding complements the product line. Hürner Schweisstechnik delivers CNC-controlled and manual butt-welding machines from 100 though to 1000 mm O.D. along with report generation units for upgrading manual butt-welding machines or outfitting machines of other brands. The comprehensive product range includes also add-ons and accessories for anything pipe-related, as well as data transfer and data management solutions for pipeline maintenance applications and traceability of every single welded joint.

On top of this, Hürner Schweisstechnik continues to be your contact for manufacturing exhaust air control units and engineering plastics.

Presently, Hürner Schweisstechnik employs 25 staff and continues to be expanding nationally and internationally.

Finally, Hürner Schweisstechnik can rely on a worldwide network of partners and service points. Wherever you are in the world, however remote, Hürner service is not far away.
